Yesterday, State Rep. Steve Johnson’s House Bill 4866, which allows military surplus vehicles that are over 25-years old to be eligible for a “Historic Vehicle” registration, passed in the Senate with a 38-0 vote.
Currently, these military vehicles are not eligible for a “Historic Vehicle” registration, meaning they are not authorized to be driven on roads even though they are completely safe to operate. Rep. Johnson’s bill changes this law to allow for these vehicles to be driven like any other historic or antique vehicle.
Rep. Johnson stated, “Historic military vehicles are a great way to celebrate and remember our history. There is no reason why these military vehicles shouldn’t be allowed to obtain a ‘Historic Vehicle’ tag and be considered a roadworthy vehicle.”
House Bill 4866 now heads to Governor Whitmer for her signature.
