


State Rep. Doug Wozniak (R-Shelby Township) has introduced legislation to modernize the Michigan Estates and Protected Individuals Code (EPIC), clarifying key rules around the power of the court to appoint a person to enforce a trust.
“As more Michiganders use trusts in their estate plans, it’s essential that our laws keep pace,” said Wozniak. “This bill helps ensure transparency, fairness, and proper oversight in trust matters.”
Key updates in the bill include:
- Clarifies who qualifies as a beneficiary
- Confirms court authority to appoint trust enforcers
- Revises rules on trust no-contest clauses
“Trusts are about preserving legacies,” said Wozniak. “This bill would ensure that the courts can enforce a trust’s intent while protecting the rights of those involved. It would provide clarity and confidence families need when planning for the future.”
