State Rep. Jennifer Wortz today celebrated legislative approval of two of her funding requests that will improve services for families across Michigan’s 35th House District.
“Every community should have safe facilities and reliable emergency services,” said Wortz (R-Quincy). “These projects address real local concerns and ensure members of our community have access to the assistance and care they need. I’m grateful to see these funding requests approved.”
The City of Hudson Senior Center received $60,000 to address aging infrastructure and improve the safety and functionality of the facility. Planned improvements include repairs to the kitchen, flooring, and interior spaces essential for daily meal preparation and senior programming. The Senior Center serves as a vital community resource by providing congregate meals, wellness activities, social engagement, and access to essential services for older adults in Hudson and the surrounding community.
“Having a daily meal helps our senior citizens to be able to live and stay in their homes longer and have a welcoming place where they can access the services they rely on every day,” Wortz said. “These facility upgrades will help ensure the center remains a functional and reliable resource while preserving an essential community asset.”
Sherwood Township also received $45,000 to improve fire protection by providing a reliable local water supply for firefighting operations. Currently, the fire department depends on neighboring communities to shuttle water from more than seven miles away, delaying emergency response times and increasing the risk of property loss. Funding will support the drilling and installation of a new well, providing a long-term solution that will strengthen emergency response and improve public safety for the township.
“Protecting our communities starts with ensuring our first responders have the resources they need to do their jobs safely and effectively,” Wortz said. “A reliable water source will greatly improve emergency response capabilities. These improvements will allow our firefighters to respond more quickly and effectively while reducing reliance on neighboring departments during emergencies.”
