State Rep. Mary Whiteford, of Casco Township, last week joined Andrew Wheeler, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, and Congressman Fred Upton on a tour of two Kalamazoo River Superfund dam removal projects.
They visited the completed Otsego Township dam first, and then the currently underway Trowbridge dam. This project, including contaminated sediment removal, is slated to be completed in 2024.
“The complexity of removing a 100-year-old dam with contaminated sediments and restoring it to its natural state cannot be understated,” Whiteford said. “I am pleased that we have the support of Executive Director Wheeler and his team. The Kalamazoo River is a great asset to the families in Allegan County.”
