Funding urgently needed to help Hackley Community Care

The Michigan House today approved an emergency budget plan that includes a $2 million allocation to allow Hackley Community Care to provide essential health care to thousands of local residents, announced state Rep. Greg VanWoerkom, R-Norton Shores.

Hackley Community Care rapidly ramped up its capacity in order to accept patients from Muskegon Family Care. The $2 million allocation will be used to help HCC bridge a shortfall until it can receive federal funding using the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grants process.

VanWoerkom, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, successfully fought to get the funding approved.

“The Legislature recognized the dire nature of the situation and allocated this emergency funding so patients in Muskegon County can stay healthy and happy,” VanWoerkom said. “The allocation is essential to improving the lives and livelihoods of many Muskegon area families. It’s great news for Hackley, and even better news for the local patients who will receive needed care.”

The budget measures also restore funding to the Pure Michigan campaign, and address evolving challenges such as the potential spread of coronavirus in Michigan, rising Great Lakes water levels and Asian carp.

The budget bills now move to the Senate for consideration.
