Rep. VanderWall will lead House Health Policy Committee
RELEASE|January 30, 2025

State Rep. Curt VanderWall has been appointed by Speaker Matt Hall to serve as the chair of the House Health Policy Committee.

The House Health Policy Committee is responsible for deliberating on issues related to public health, health professionals, mental health and wellness, and overall access to health care. The newly appointed chair said he is pleased to have the opportunity to continue his commitment to making health care attainable, reliable and accessible for Michigan residents.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues on the committee to find solutions to the most pressing issues facing our state’s health care landscape,” VanderWall said. “By listening thoughtfully to citizens and relevant stakeholders, we can take the necessary steps to make Michigan healthier and improve access to care.”

VanderWall previously served as chair of the Senate Health Policy Committee during his Senate service and as Republican vice chair of the Health Policy Committee in the 2023-24 term when Democrats controlled the House, he said he looks forward to leading the committee now that Republicans are back at the helm.

During the last legislative term, VanderWall introduced bills to increase access to life saving opioid response drugs and address the shortage of speech pathologists throughout the state amongst others.

VanderWall will also serve on the House committees on Finance, Government Operations, and Natural Resources and Tourism.

The House Health Policy Committee will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesdays in room 519 of the Anderson House Office Building. Local residents can tune into every committee meeting online, and can subscribe to committee notices via the Legislature’s website.
