Legislator spotlights new federal jobs report

State Rep. Mark Tisdel today said the October jobs report from the federal government demonstrates workers and businesses are continuing to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The federal Bureau of Labor Statistics released its monthly employment report on Friday, which showed a net increase of 531,000 filled jobs for nonfarm employment during October. Excluding government jobs, which declined, the report shows private sector nonfarm payrolls experienced a 604,000 increase. The national unemployment rate for the month was 4.6%, a 0.2% decline.

“Jobs are being filled in Michigan and the nation as families and businesses recover from financial hardship,” said Tisdel, of Rochester Hills. “Local workers are getting hired by job creators, and this in turn helps ensure local goods and services are available for the families who need them.”
