State Rep. Jamie Thompson today honored her fellow nurses who provide critical care for Michigan’s most vulnerable.

Thompson’s House Resolution 306 proclaims May 10-16 as Skilled Nursing Care Week across the state.

“This measure highlights the dedication of nurses at skilled care facilities and expresses our gratitude for their compassion and professionalism. It also honors the efforts of volunteers and loved ones who provide support for people in skilled nursing facilities who may be dealing with a physical or intellectual disability,” said Thompson, of Brownstown Township. “Being strong for one another and those in need helps build a stronger Michigan. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, I’m so proud of the work these men and women do every day in our communities. This is a thank you to them, and a pledge that we will continue to support them and their careers in the Legislature.”

Established by the American Health Care Association in 1967, National Skilled Nursing Care Week starts each year on Mother’s Day and encourages skilled nursing facilities around the country to host a variety of events that showcase and thank the individuals who reside, work, and volunteer in nursing facilities.

This year’s theme for National Skilled Nursing Care Week is “Moments in Bloom,” which reflects how every act of compassion, connection, and teamwork can grow into meaningful experiences for residents, families and staff, and celebrates the idea that big and small moments can go a long way towards helping residents live life to the fullest and with purpose.

Thompson said the week serves as a great time for citizens throughout southeast Michigan to visit a loved one, family member or friend residing in any care setting. Thompson is in her second term in the Michigan House and serves as Vice Chair of the House Health Policy Committee.
