Rep. Thompson: Donation drives seeking items to help fellow community members, families
RELEASE|November 27, 2023

To commemorate the season of giving, state Rep. Jamie Thompson is hosting a pair of upcoming community charity drives with local groups in Brownstown and Monroe and encouraging people to attend.

On Monday, Dec. 4, Rep. Thompson will be spearheading the Fish & Loaves Food Drive to help Downriver families in need. The event will run from 5-6:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Brownstown Police Department.

On Wednesday, Dec. 6, Rep. Thompson will be leading the Gifts of Hope event – a Christmas supply drive for women in need. The event will run from 5-6:30 p.m. at Selah’s Center of Hope, located at 14930 Laplaisance Road, Suite 106 in Monroe. Supplies that will be sought for donation include paper towels, dish soap, toilet paper, linens, children’s clothing, diapers, and other everyday items.

“When I sought to represent our area, I made it clear that I would be a voice for people and their families and support our communities in any way I could,” said Thompson, of Brownstown. “The reality is there are many people in our area – including seniors and single mothers – who are struggling to make ends meet, and we can come together as a community and uplift them in times of need.

“Coretta Scott King said the greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members. Every item that is donated provides critical support for people and goes directly back into our communities. I am thankful to be partnering with local leaders to help people in need.”

Those with questions about the local events can contact Rep. Thompson by phone at (517) 373-1772 or email at [email protected].
