LANSING — State Rep. Steve Frisbie of Michigan’s 44th House District today applauded the passage of the new state budget, saying it reflects the priorities of Michigan families while delivering direct wins for Calhoun County and District 44.
Frisbie said the plan lowers overall state spending and reins in government waste, eliminating “ghost employee” positions that were draining tax dollars without providing services. By cutting unnecessary costs, the budget directs resources back to the people and communities who need them most.
“This budget shows taxpayers that Lansing can finally put their interests first,” Frisbie said. “We are ending waste, making government live within its means, and putting every dollar back to work for Michigan families.”
The budget also fulfills promises House Republicans made to improve roads and schools. It dedicates billions to repair and maintain Michigan’s crumbling infrastructure without raising consumer taxes, while delivering record per-pupil funding for classrooms so every student has the same opportunity to succeed.
For working families, the budget eliminates state taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security income, allowing people to keep more of what they earn. In addition, the creation of a Public Safety Trust Fund strengthens law enforcement across Michigan by giving officers the modern equipment and training they need to protect communities.
“These are the priorities people tell me about every day — safer streets, better schools, and fair treatment for working families,” Frisbie said. “This budget is proof that House Republicans are listening and delivering for Michigan..”
District 44 wins:
In addition to statewide victories, Frisbie said the 44th District will see several direct investments through Michigan’s Local Development and Infrastructure initiative:
- $737,000 for new tasers to equip local law enforcement in Calhoun County.
- $3.3 million for bridge replacement and rehabilitation in Sheridan Township.
- $125,000 for carport improvements in Springfield.
- $32,000 for Albion police body cameras.
- $31,700 for Bronson Health to expand classroom-based sexual assault prevention education and outreach.
“These investments go straight to the heart of what matters here at home — safe communities, reliable infrastructure, and healthy families,” Frisbie said. “Calhoun County will see lasting benefits from this budget, alongside the broader wins we’ve secured for all of Michigan.”
The budget was approved today by the Legislature, ensuring taxpayer dollars are directed into local and statewide priorities that strengthen Michigan families and communities.
