State Rep. Donni Steele, chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Local Transportation, today released the following statement after the subcommittee voted out its recommended budget.
“Last year, as Chair and in conjunction with Republican House colleagues, I helped lead the charge to pass a historic plan that finally put real, long-term funding behind fixing our roads. We committed $2 billion more every year to local roads and bridges and ensured all taxes paid at the pump go directly to the roads.
“This year’s budget continues this investment in Michigan’s infrastructure, dedicating an extra $100 million to road funding, primarily for neighborhood roads. We’re not going back to the days of potholes and patchwork fixes. Michigan residents expect results, and that’s exactly what we’re delivering.
“As Chair, I’ve made it clear that our infrastructure and fixing our roads is top priority. I will continue working to ensure we are responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars and that those dollars are spent on what Michigan residents truly care about, the roads, especially from driveways to highways.”
