State Rep. Josh Schriver will serve on the House Oversight Committee for the 2025-26 legislative term and will play a critical role in delivering deeply needed government transparency and accountability.

The House Oversight Committee examines state government operations, including Auditor General reports and legislation affecting the functioning of state government. Schriver will serve as Vice Chair on the House Oversight Subcommittee on Weaponization of State Government and as a member of the House Oversight Subcommittee on Homeland Security and Foreign Influence.

“We have seen repeated instances of abuse and blatant overreach from state government over the past several years, and taxpayers throughout our state continue to be left in the dark as their money is used for backroom deals with questionable entities,” Schriver said. “These committees are specifically designed to look at these problems and bring change so that we can deliver a better system of government for the people – one that works for the people instead of the other way around. I am committed to getting answers and delivering action.”

Schriver said his focuses on the House Oversight Subcommittee on Homeland Security and Foreign Influence will include sanctuary hot spots and policies, determining ways state government can work with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and examining attempts by countries of concern to buy Michigan land or influence Michigan’s elections.

In addition to his roles on the Oversight committees, Schriver will also serve on the House Communications and Technology Committee. The panel will address telecommunications policy and emerging technology issues.

“I want to focus on protecting our First Amendment and the ability for Michigan residents to engage in political discourse on various platforms without repercussions,” Schriver said. “The modern methods of communication and technology that we use are at the forefront of Free Speech, and I’m going to be looking for ways to protect that. I’m also interested in looking at emerging forms of technology like cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence. It’s extremely important to ensure these technologies are serving the best interest of every Michigan resident.”
