State Rep. Kathy Schmaltz will serve on two policy committees in the Michigan House. Speaker Joe Tate appointed Schmaltz to the Health Policy and Energy, Communications and Technology committees.
Additionally, Schmaltz was appointed by the chair of the Health Policy Committee to serve as vice chair of a special panel dedicated to examining behavioral health issues.
“These committee assignments present a great opportunity to work on issues that touch the lives of people throughout Jackson and Washtenaw counties,” said Schmaltz, R-Jackson. “I’m particularly looking forward to addressing the topic of mental health and finding solutions that offer affordable and reliable care to people who need it.”
The Health Policy Committee is responsible for deliberating on issues related to public health, health professionals, mental health and wellness, and overall access to health care. The Energy, Communications and Technology Committee will deliberate on issues related to the generation of energy, its transmission throughout the grid, and delivery to homes, schools and businesses. It also addresses telecommunications issues such as expanding rural broadband and other topics related to emerging technologies.
