RELEASE|February 11, 2025

State Rep. Kathy Schmaltz today applauded the recent award of a $95,800 grant to the Jackson Symphony Orchestra Association through the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s Symphony Economic Recovery Program.

The grant is part of a $5.65 million statewide initiative aimed at bolstering Michigan’s symphony orchestras. The program awarded funding to all 41 eligible symphonies across the state, ensuring their continued sustainability and expansion of community engagement.

“The Jackson Symphony Orchestra has been an essential part of our community for decades, enriching our local culture, inspiring creativity, and providing outstanding musical performances for everyone to enjoy,” said Schmaltz, R-Jackson. “I’m grateful that this funding will help our symphony continue its incredible work, and I look forward to seeing how this grant will further strengthen its presence in Jackson.”

Grants through the Symphony Economic Recovery Program will generally support needs such as music hall renovations, purchasing instruments, musician and administrative staffing, professional development, and marketing efforts to broaden attendance.
