State Rep. Ron Robinson (R-Utica) is standing up for Macomb County after local projects were held up by a procedural vote at the state Capitol. Robinson opposed the vote and is highlighting the need for careful, transparent, and responsible use of taxpayer money while putting his community first.
“There is a better, more accountable way to reduce spending and eliminate waste,” said Robinson. “I firmly believe that spending is out of control and the vote did take important steps towards reigning it in. That said, there were a distressing number of legitimate projects that serve our community caught in the crossfire. Equipment for police and fire stations in Utica and Sterling Heights, funding for Macomb Community College’s Public Safety Institute, and many others are all worthy projects that directly improve our community.
“I absolutely believe we need to eliminate wasteful spending and protect the hard-earned money Michiganders send to Lansing. But we must be careful and discern in how we make those decisions. My first duty is to my constituents and to Macomb County. I made a decision to go against the grain to do what’s best for them.
“I am fighting now to restore this funding in a transparent way with the upcoming supplemental budget. I will continue advocating for these projects because our community deserves nothing less. This is about putting our community before politics and making sure Macomb County gets the support it needs and deserves.”
