Rep. Robinson joins leaders for public safety roundtable

State Representative Ron Robinson, R-Utica, attended a roundtable discussion at the Detroit Police Department Headquarters with fellow state representatives, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, and local law enforcement and municipal leaders from across Metro Detroit, including Utica Police Chief Matthew Kaluzny. The discussion was focused on the Public Safety Trust Fund and the impact of the Republican plan on communities throughout the region.

“Public safety is a top priority, and we must ensure our residents feel safe,” said Robinson. “It was an honor to hear directly from the local leaders, like our Chief Kaluzny, who work every day to keep our communities safe. It’s a sad reality that our local law enforcement is stretched extremely thin at the moment- this plan will provide critical funding to support their efforts and prevent violence.”

The proposed House plan would allocate $75 million statewide to fund safety grants and violence prevention programs, helping communities invest in new technology, officer training, and community policing strategies. The past five years have been riddled with recruitment and retention issues for local police stations. By providing law enforcement agencies with additional resources, the plan aims to remedy these issues and strengthen trust between officers and the communities they serve.

“Macomb County alone is set to receive over $4 million, which will make a significant difference in enhancing public safety,” said Robinson. “Safety is the foundation of any thriving community, and this funding is a step in the right direction. Public safety gives prospective families and businesses the confidence they need to make Michigan their home.”
