Rep. Robinson calls on Congress to end federal shutdown, urges bipartisan action

Contact: Ron Robinson

State Rep. Ron Robinson (R-Utica) today proposed a substitute to Senate Concurrent Resolution 7, which calls on the U.S. Congress to immediately reopen the federal government and pass a clean continuing resolution.

The version of the resolution approved by the Michigan Senate contains partisan language that only deepens political divides and distracts from the urgent need to end the shutdown.

“People in Macomb County and across Michigan need the government back open,” said Robinson. “They don’t want to hear finger pointing. They want to receive their SNAP benefits, they want their troops to get paid, and they want a government that works for them.”

Robinson’s substitute focuses on sending a clear, bipartisan message to Congress that it’s time to put people over politics and get the government working again. It underscores the urgent need for federal lawmakers to act responsibly, pass a clean budget measure, and restore essential government services relied upon by millions of Americans.

“In Michigan, we avoided a government shutdown by passing a short-term spending plan, engaging in bipartisan negotiations, and getting a deal across the finish line,” said Robinson. “The people of Michigan needed commonsense solutions and good faith negotiations. That is what we delivered: there’s no reason Congress can’t end the gridlock and do the same.”
