State Rep. Matt Hall is working to protect Michigan communities from dangerous lawbreakers by preventing local governments from obstructing U.S. immigration laws and refusing to cooperate with federal officers.

“When politicians ignore our immigration laws, they undermine our border security and put our families at risk,” said Hall, a Republican from Richland Township. “That is why I’ve introduced a plan to ban sanctuary cities and keep our communities safe.”

Under House Bills 4879 and 4880, local governments could not adopt any “sanctuary” policy to prevent police officers or other government employees from communicating and cooperating with federal immigration officials.

“City and county politicians shouldn’t try to defy federal law enforcement tasked with keeping our border secure and protecting our communities,” Hall said. “I will always stand up for the people of Michigan and their safety.”

Hall sponsored House Bill 4880, which bans sanctuary counties, and cosponsored House Bill 4879, which bans sanctuary cities, villages, and townships.
