State Rep. David Martin this week led the Michigan House in adopting a resolution to declare February 2025 as Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month in Michigan.

Martin, R-Davison, said the designation recognizes the important role CTE programs play in strengthening Michigan’s workforce and preparing students for in-demand careers.

“Career and technical education is an essential pathway to success for many students, offering hands-on training that leads to rewarding careers,” Martin said. “Vocational skills, a strong work ethic, and thriving skilled trade industries form the backbone of Genesee County and many other communities across our state.”

During the 2023-24 school year, more than 112,000 Michigan high school students participated in CTE programs. About 95% of students who focus on CTE go on to pursue higher education, advanced training, military service, or enter the workforce within a year of graduation.

“CTE programs are delivering real results by equipping students with the skills and experience they need to succeed in today’s job market,” Martin said. “This month is a celebration of the hardworking educators, industry partners, and students who are helping to build a stronger Michigan.”
