State Rep. David Martin is joined by other state representatives who are veterans while recognizing Blue Star Mothers Day on the House floor.
State Rep. David Martin, R-Davison, today paid tribute to the work Blue Star Mothers do to support the armed forces, military families, and veterans throughout Michigan.
Founded in Michigan, Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. is a national organization comprised of mothers of members of the military. Martin’s resolution recognizes Feb. 1 as Blue Star Mothers Day in Michigan.
“The bond of Blue Star Mothers transcends distance and hardship, uniting mothers from all walks of life in a shared mission to uplift, honor, and protect those who wear our nation’s uniform,” Martin said. “Their tireless dedication and selfless service ensure that no service member is forgotten.”
On Feb. 1, 1942 — eight weeks after the bombing of Pearl Harbor — 300 mothers of World War II service members met in Flint, and Blue Star Mothers of America was born.
The idea quickly spread around the country. Today, the national organization continues to help and honor members of the military and promote patriotism. Blue Star Mothers of America sends care packages to deployed troops, welcomes returning veterans, honors fallen heroes, and cares for military families.
