Rep. Markkanen: Grant for Baraga will improve village infrastructure
RELEASE|January 27, 2022

State Rep. Greg Markkanen today announced the Village of Baraga has been awarded a grant to provide people with an improved, more efficient infrastructure.

A Drinking Water Asset Management Grant of nearly $170,000 will be provided to the community for service line verification and water system tracking through the MI Clean Water Plan.

“These grants make our communities in the western U.P. an even better place to live, work and raise a family,” said Markkanen, of Hancock. “They’re investments for today and tomorrow, and I will continue fighting for measures that help U.P. residents and their families.”

The MI Clean Water Plan provides funding for public health and vital resources, establishing drinking water and wastewater grants for communities across the state without a tax increase. The grants also create less administrative burden for communities looking to green light improvements or basic upkeep.

Rep. Markkanen is in his second term representing residents in Baraga, Gogebic, Houghton, Iron, Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties, as well as Powell and Ishpeming townships in Marquette County.
