As part of a state budget agreement for the new fiscal year, state Rep. Rylee Linting has secured critical funding across the Downriver community, including a project in Trenton.
A $10 million appropriation will enable Wayne County to begin construction on a new bridge on West Road in Trenton. The current bridge is failing, and its condition has already forced a closure of two lanes of traffic – creating bottlenecks and safety concerns for motorists, rail traffic and first responders who need to use the infrastructure to respond to an emergency.
“For years, our local infrastructure across the state has been crumbling,” said Linting, of Grosse Ile Township. “This budget focuses on providing needed resources for local road agencies to make repairs. When I talk with people throughout our area, their priorities are things like having good roads they can use to take their kids to school or run errands and feeling safe in their communities. I wanted to follow through on those priorities, and I will continue to fight for common-sense investments that give people Downriver the best value on their tax dollars.”
Linting previously testified on the request before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor and Economic Opportunity. Also providing testimony on the projects along with Rep. Linting were Wayne County Deputy Executive Andrew Kandrevas and Wayne County Department of Public Services Director Dayo Akinyemi.
The state budget agreement, which makes landmark investments in local roads, support for students and public safety, is soon expected to be voted on and sent to the governor.
