Rep. Lightner: School safety funding plan does not go nearly far enough
RELEASE|September 25, 2024

State Rep. Sarah Lightner today issued the following statement after voting in favor of a supplemental that restores a small portion of the school safety and mental health funding slashed by Democrats in the school aid budget for the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1:

“This is nothing but a weak attempt to save face after Democrats slashed school safety and mental health funding by a devastating 92%. Restoring just $125 million of the $302 million they cut isn’t even a half-baked measure — it’s crumbs. Their reckless budget is still going to result in some districts losing millions, forcing schools to lay off counselors and resource officers, and leaving students without the support they need. Our kids deserve better than these watered-down political stunts that sacrifice their safety and well-being.”
