Rep. Lightner fights to ban discriminatory abortions
RELEASE|May 7, 2021

State Rep. Sarah Lightner is co-sponsoring a plan to defend the lives of the unborn by prohibiting discriminatory abortions – those based on a baby’s gender or disability.

The proposal would establish a two-year felony as penalty for those who perform discriminatory abortions.

“A precious human life should never be ended due to a baby’s sex or the presence of a disability,” said Lightner, of Springport. “We must stand up and protect the sanctity of life for all Americans, especially unborn children who cannot speak for themselves.”

The U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled in favor of similar Ohio legislation banning abortions based on a Down syndrome diagnosis.

House Bills 4737-38 were referred to the House Health Policy Committee for consideration.
