Rep. Lightner: Additional state revenue must be invested in roads, returned to taxpayers
RELEASE|January 10, 2025

State Rep. Sarah Lightner today issued the following statement after today’s Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference:

“This revenue boost is a tremendous opportunity to refocus Michigan’s priorities and deliver results that truly matter to our residents. With Republicans now leading the House, I am optimistic that we can finally tackle the crumbling local roads that have been neglected for far too long. Safe and reliable infrastructure is essential for families, businesses, and communities, and it’s time to make this a priority.

“Beyond infrastructure, this additional revenue should go back to where it belongs — in the pockets of hardworking Michiganders. Michigan families deserve to keep more of their hard-earned money, especially after years of misplaced priorities from Democrats, who spent billions on corporate handouts and grants for special projects that lack transparency and accountability.

“We have a responsibility to use this moment to fix what’s broken, strengthen our communities, and deliver relief to the people who make Michigan work. I’m committed to ensuring these dollars are spent wisely, with accountability, and in ways that make a real difference in the lives of our residents.”
