State Rep. Jaime Greene today praised the Michigan House’s passage of the “Value for MI Dollars” budget for fiscal year 2025–26, saying the plan cuts 5 billion in wasteful spending and invests directly in priorities that matter to Michigan families.
“Michigan families deserve a budget that works for them, not for bureaucracy,” Greene said. “This plan reins in waste, fraud, and abuse while making sure every tax dollar delivers real value in the form of better schools, safer roads, stronger emergency services, and secure communities.”
The House-approved budget, totaling $78.5 billion, includes more than $3 billion for road and bridge repairs, a record $12,000 per-pupil foundation allowance for K–12 education, expanded scholarships to reduce the cost of higher education, and funding for public safety and mental health initiatives. In addition to statewide priorities, Greene secured key wins for her district, including $1.1 million for the Palms Road Bridge and $280,000 for the Sterling Road Culvert through the St. Clair County Road Commission, continued support for Selfridge Air National Guard Base, and resources to expand juvenile justice bed space.
Greene also fought for the ambulance providers’ supplemental appropriation item, which provides $6 million in one-time funding to reimburse EMS agencies for unpaid emergency services rendered to state prisons after the collapse of a previous healthcare contractor. Without this fix, many ambulance providers in Macomb and St. Clair counties faced devastating financial losses that threatened their ability to continue serving local residents.
“These investments aren’t just numbers on paper — they mean safer bridges, stronger schools, better support for our first responders, and real improvements for families across our community,” Greene said. “This budget delivers for St. Clair County and for Michigan.”
The budget now advances to the Senate, where Rep Greene urges swift passage.
