Event to take place Dec. 8 in Waterford
State Rep. Mike Harris today invited local elected officials and small-business owners from north-central Oakland County to discuss cybersecurity concerns and best practices with an expert from the U.S. Secret Service.
Harris will be joined by members of the Secret Service at a cybersecurity forum on Friday, Dec. 8, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Social Hall at Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, 5481 Dixie Highway in Waterford. Topics for discussion at the event may include network intrusion, email scams, phishing, ransomware, preventative measures, and more.
Local business owners or government officials planning to attend should RSVP to [email protected] by Thursday, Dec. 7 and include the number of attendees in the group; anyone with questions about the event can reach out to Harris’ office via email or by calling 517-373-0828.
“With emails, sales, banking transactions, and more all happening over the internet, it’s important to follow smart internet security practices,” said Harris, R-Waterford. “I’m excited to host the Secret Service to put on a cybersecurity forum for small-business owners and local government officials in our area. With the expertise of this federal law enforcement agency, the forum will highlight online safety measures to help safeguard against fraud, information theft, and other cybersecurity risks.”
Harris represents the 52nd House District, which includes Lake Angelus, Clarkston, Independence Township, and portions of Springfield and Waterford townships. An infographic with event details is attached.
