State Rep. Mike Harris on Monday highlighted a planned expansion of AJG Aerospace in Oakland County that is expected to result in 125 new local jobs.

The local aerospace startup, which manufactures specialized parts for aircraft, spacecraft, and satellites, will renovate a facility in Independence Township to serve as its company headquarters and a new manufacturing plant. Harris, who is a member of the Michigan Legislature’s Aerospace Defense Caucus, said the new plant and job creation would boost the economy and bolster Michigan’s burgeoning aerospace sector.

“Metro Detroit manufacturers made Michigan the Arsenal of Democracy,” said Harris, R-Waterford. “Today, new companies are building on that legacy with new technologies. I’m excited to see AJG Aerospace invest resources, expand its operations, and create new jobs right here in our community. This investment will boost Michigan’s cutting-edge role in the aerospace industry.”

Capital investment for the project is expected to be more than $33 million dollars, with a $1 million performance-based grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Michigan Business Development Program.

The 125 planned jobs are expected to pay average wages of $34.25 per hour. Entry-level positions will start at $20 an hour with on-the-job training and opportunities for swift promotion and pay raises.
