Rep. Green welcomes local robotics team to House floor

PHOTO INFORMATION: State Rep. Phil Green (right), of Millington, hosted the Team 5460 – Strike Zone FIRST Robotics team from Lapeer Community Schools at the state Capitol in Lansing on Tuesday, June 6.

Strike Zone recently completed its most successful season in the history of the program. The team won three blue banners and recently finished as the alliance captain for the runner-up alliance in the First Robotics Competition World Championships in Houston. The team excelled this season amidst more than 3,200 FIRST Robotics teams and 70,000 participating students across 27 countries.

Strike Zone also has taken home numerous awards, including the Industrial Design Award sponsored by General Motors and the Autonomous Award sponsored by Ford Motor Company. FIRST is a non-profit, international organization founded in 1989 to inspire and educate young people in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math through mentor-based teaching. It consists of multiple robotics programs involving various age groups.

Green, who represents Lapeer in the 67th District in the Michigan House, showed students around the House floor as they toured the state Capitol.
