State Rep. Phil Green has introduced a resolution declaring September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in the state of Michigan.

Green said approximately 175,000 children age 14 and under are diagnosed with cancer worldwide each year. In the U.S., cancer causes more deaths in children than any other post-infancy disease.

“Children and families facing these heartbreaking diagnoses are forced to endure so much as they navigate a painful and overwhelming journey,” said Green, of Millington. “As a father, I can only imagine the grief and suffering that parents of children who fall victim to cancer must endure.”

The resolution was adopted by the House with overwhelming support.
