Rep. Fink stands up for Second Amendment rights
RELEASE|February 17, 2022
Contact: Andrew Fink

State Rep. Andrew Fink, of Adams Township, issued the following statement opposing the “Red Flag” bill that will soon be brought up for a hearing in a state Senate committee. The proposal would allow a judge to issue an order authorizing police to confiscate firearms from an individual if they allegedly pose a risk to themselves or others:

“I strongly oppose red flag laws and believe they have no place here in Michigan. We already have tools to protect the public from bad actors, and we can accomplish that goal without violating our citizens’ civil rights.

“Red flag laws make for great talking points, but the reality is that this legislation would inhibit a person’s right to keep and bear a firearm without due process. The benefits of American citizenship are supposed to mean more than that.

“The root causes of this issue are our broken mental health system, broken families, and broken civic institutions. Making our communities safer depends on strengthening those bulwarks of civil society, not watering down our constitutional rights.

“I will not support this blatant disregard for our constitutional rights under any circumstances.”
