State Rep. Graham Filler recently presented a state tribute to Alan Nelson, who is retiring after 18 years of owning and operating Sunfire Wireless in St. Johns. Nelson has contributed to the community in numerous ways, including with the Rotary Club, the St. Johns Chamber of Commerce, and as an executive committee member of the St. Johns Soap Box Derby. He also served on the St. Johns Board of Education for 15 years. For years, Nelson has shown his dedication to honoring members of the military, especially those lost in service to their country. Nelson lost a son himself, and paid homage to those in service through his Wall of Honor, which hung at his store. Nelson also has a traveling version of the wall, which he takes to community parades.
