Rep. DeBoyer: Website change at Rx Kids only fuels questions about ties to guaranteed income activists

House Oversight Committee Chair Jay DeBoyer today issued the following statement after information on Rx Kids’ Advisory Circle was removed from the group’s website. The advisory circle was a point of contention during a recent committee hearing with the group’s founder and director, Dr. Mona Hanna, as DeBoyer expressed concern about out-of-state activists who are pushing for a guaranteed basic income influencing how Michigan tax dollars are spent.

“A major point in our hearing was transparency about the Rx Kids program and how it operates. This included the long-term goals of the program, how it plans to remain sustainable going forward, and why they chose to partner with some of these progressive activists on their advisory board. Rx Kids has received over $300 million in public dollars. It’s a program that has come with a big price tag to taxpayers, and that should come with a large amount of responsibility.

“Given all this, it’s telling that Dr. Mona would attempt to conceal these relationships following the hearing with the removal of information on the group’s advisory circle. This move shows our committee is asking the right questions as we seek to get answers. We will continue to ask them.”
