State Rep. Cam Cavitt today secured the passage of a budget deal that delivers state implementation of President Trump’s ‘No tax on tips, overtime, or Social Security income’ plan in Michigan. The agreement will provide meaningful tax relief to more than 500,000 Michiganders.
“Northeast Michigan is built on service and the trades,” said Cavitt, R-Cheboygan. “This tax relief plan will mean that single mothers will bring home every dollar of their tip money at the end of a long shift and that long-sought overtime for working fathers will be even more impactful. We’re talking about money that will help cover groceries, school clothes, car repairs, and other necessities that are often put off because it’s simply not in the budget for that week. By securing these dollars for our people, we’re delivering for the middle class that’s been forgotten for far too long.”
The budget – which passed with broad, bipartisan support – implements President Trump’s plan to provide tax relief to working families and seniors by eliminating taxes on tips, overtime pay, and Social Security income. This tax relief will help workers, seniors, and families stretch their paychecks further and keep up with the rising cost of living.
