State Rep. Cam Cavitt, of Cheboygan, announced he will host local office hours in June in Presque Isle and Alcona counties.
The meetings take place at the following times and locations:
Friday, June 23
Presque Isle County: Presque Isle County Courthouse; 10 – 11 a.m.; 20774 State St., Onaway
Monday, June 26
Alcona County: Alcona Township Hall; 3 – 4 p.m.; 5576 US-23, Black River
No appointments are necessary to attend office hours. Those who are unable to attend but would still like to share their thoughts with the representative may call his Lansing office at (517) 373-0833 or email [email protected].
“This move by the feds is effectively spitting in the faces of all the sportsmen and wildlife experts that have been working diligently to preserve sturgeon populations and fishing seasons for decades,” Cavitt said. “Sturgeon fishing is a cultural staple in Northeast Michigan that the Black Lake community hosts an annual festival in conjunction with the season.”
“Please encourage anyone affected by the plant closing to contact my office. We can help guide them through the unemployment process and be a resource as they navigate this difficult time,” Cavitt said. “People are waking up to difficult news this morning. Please know that you do not have to go through this alone. There is a whole community behind you. We’re ready to help.”

“People harvest deer year-round. Whether it’s farmers with nuisance licenses or a surplus of deer during hunting season, there are always extra deer that need to be processed,” said Cavitt, R-Cheboygan. “MSAH gets the deer to processors and ensures all resulting venison gets to the dinner tables of people who need it.”
