State Rep. Cam Cavitt, R-Cheboygan, released the following statement Thursday following a recent announcement that the Decorative Panels International (DPI) plant in Alpena would be closing permanently. More than 150 people were employed at the plant. The DPI plant has produced hardboard products in Alpena for over 60 years.

“Please encourage anyone affected by the plant closing to contact my office. We can help guide them through the unemployment process and be a resource as they navigate this difficult time,” Cavitt said. “People are waking up to difficult news this morning. Please know that you do not have to go through this alone. There is a whole community behind you. We’re ready to help.”

Anyone looking for help can call Cavitt’s office at 517-373-0833 or email at [email protected].
