State Rep. Cam Cavitt this month voted to protect women’s sports in Michigan. House Bills 4066 and 4469 would prohibit biological males from competing in girls’ high school sports and incorporate Title IX protections for women’s sports into the Michigan Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act.
“We must keep sports safe and fair for female athletes throughout our state,” said Cavitt, R-Cheboygan. “Michigan should be a place where we respect the grit of female athletes who fought to establish sports leagues, competitions, and records at a time when only men could play. Parents shouldn’t have to worry about their daughters being forced to compete with men who are far larger and stronger than they are. Girls in sports should never be robbed of scholarship opportunities intended for true females. Maintaining the integrity of female sports competitions is an issue supported by nearly all Americans. It’s time to listen to the people and protect our girls.”
The legislation passed with bipartisan support and heads to the Senate for further consideration.
