State Rep. Julie Calley visited several local elementary schools last month to help students observe March is Reading Month.
Calley, of Portland, read to more than 930 students at nine different schools, speaking to all of them about the importance of reading.
“I absolutely love taking part in the effort to emphasize literacy each year during March,” Calley said. “Reading is a fun activity that helps kids expand their vocabulary, develop critical-thinking skills and engage their imaginations. My hope is that these visits will help foster a love of books in young people that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.”
State Rep. Julie Calley recently led the House in approving a plan to allow judges who oversee Michigan’s treatment courts to discuss the use of medical marijuana with participants.
