State Rep. Julie Calley and the Michigan House today voted to protect the rights of Michigan parents to take part in medical decisions involving their minor children.
“Parents are in the best position to understand the unique needs of their child,” Calley said. “Except in emergency situations where the life of a child is at risk, parents should always be consulted before a medical procedure is performed on a child.”
House Bill 5880 simply clarifies that a health professional licensed in Michigan cannot provide non-emergency medical care to a minor without the consent of the minor’s parent or guardian.
The plan now advances to the Senate for further consideration.
