State Rep. Ken Borton today informed Northern Michigan residents the Gaylord unemployment office will open for appointments on June 30.
“Since I started my legislative tenure in January, numerous residents have contacted my office about their struggles navigating our broken unemployment system,” said Borton, of Gaylord. “When the pandemic hit last March, unemployment offices closed, even as claims skyrocketed due to business closures. Finally, the agency is reopening offices, and I encourage Northern Michigan residents still trying to obtain benefits to schedule an appointment at the Gaylord office.”
The Unemployment Insurance Agency today announced that its offices in Gaylord and 11 other locations throughout the state will open for appointments beginning June 30. Appointments will be available on weekdays between 8:15 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. Residents can reserve an office appointment up to one week in advance online here, and phone appointments can be booked through the same website. Claimants can also obtain assistance from the UIA by calling 866-500-0017 on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. or by chat online at the Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM).
“House Republicans aren’t playing by the normal rules anymore, and that makes partisan hacks like Dana Nessel shake in their boots,” said Borton, R-Gaylord. “Instead of encouraging her own colleagues to consider legislation to address our concerns, she would rather threaten us with criminal charges for standing up for tipped workers and small businesses. Nessel should realize that we aren’t scared of her or her desperate attempts to weaponize the attorney general’s office as a last-ditch effort to extinguish what’s been a dumpster fire of a legislative term. Let her charge us; I want to look her in the eye in court while she tries to argue how my sticking up for restaurant workers and small businesses is a dereliction of duty.”
