Rep. Bollin votes to ban research on tissue from aborted babies

State Rep. Ann Bollin and the Michigan House this week approved a plan to prohibit experimentation on fetal tissue from aborted babies.

The legislation was introduced after the Biden administration eliminated research restrictions last year.

“All human life must be treated with dignity and respect,” said Bollin, of Brighton Township. “Using aborted babies for experiments is an unnecessary and unethical practice that sanctions the horrific act of abortion.”

House Bills 5558-59 would prohibit research on a dead embryo, fetus or neonate obtained from an abortion and ban donations of remains from aborted babies. Knowingly performing such experiments would be a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

HBs 5558-59 now advance to the Senate for further consideration.
