State Rep. Ann Bollin issued the following statement after the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services came before a House subcommittee during a hearing on the Medicaid redetermination process:
“During the Medicaid redetermination process, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services requires vulnerable residents to sign a statement that they will pay back benefits they receive even if the department issues the benefits in error. This is quite concerning, especially given the history of the UIA calling upon residents to repay thousands of dollars in unemployment claims even though the department was at fault for certifying their eligibility. How frequently is this happening? Medicaid is a program that vulnerable people rely on. How many struggling families have been hurt by these errors? I asked these questions of the department during committee, and I eagerly await their response.”
