State Rep. Ann Bollin, Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, this week introduced House Bill 4961 to deliver direct tax relief to Michigan families, workers and retirees.

The legislation mirrors changes made at the federal level under President Trump’s One Big, Beautiful Bill by exempting tips, overtime compensation and auto loan interest on vehicles assembled in the United States from state income taxes. It also exempts Social Security income, protecting retirement benefits seniors worked their entire lives to earn.

“President Trump led the way with the One Big, Beautiful Bill, and Michigan Republicans are making sure families here see the benefits,” Bollin said. “This update ensures workers and seniors receive real relief now. Lower taxes on tips, overtime, auto loans and Social Security mean more money stays in people’s pockets.”

House Bill 4961 has been referred to the House Finance Committee for consideration.
