State Rep. Ann Bollin speaks in support of her resolution designating May 2-8 as Municipal Clerks Week in the State of Michigan.
State Rep. Ann Bollin of Brighton Township and the Michigan House today recognized the men and women who serve Michigan communities in the important role of municipal clerk.
The House overwhelmingly adopted Bollin’s resolution to declare May 2-8 as Municipal Clerks Week in the State of Michigan.
“Our local clerks play a vital role in connecting people with their local government,” Bollin said. “Their jobs are incredibly diverse. To name just a few of their duties, clerks serve as election administrators, parliamentarians, record keepers, bookkeepers, FOIA coordinators, public meeting organizers, tour guides, and cemetery sextons. To wear so many hats, clerks must exhibit the highest levels of integrity and great resiliency to get the job done.”
Bollin, who served for 16 years at the Brighton Township clerk, said the Office of the Municipal Clerk is the longest serving profession among public servants, dating back to ancient times when clerks were called upon to record meetings by memory.
“It is my hope that you will join me in showing appreciation to our hardworking clerks for the vital services they perform and their dedication to our communities,” Bollin said.
