State Rep. Karl Bohnak on Thursday was appointed to serve as Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Economic Competitiveness. He will also serve as a member of the Natural Resources and Tourism, Health Policy, and Transportation and Infrastructure Committees.

“I’m grateful to be appointed to these key committees that will consider policies that are so important to U.P. residents,” said Bohnak, R-Deerton. “I’ll be able to ensure U.P. voices are heard in conversations regarding our economy, natural resources, hospitals and healthcare, and the state of our local infrastructure. Today marks the beginning of a lot of hard work before us, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Bohnak, who worked as a U.P. weatherman for over 30 years, said he’s looking forward to diving into policy that will grow economic opportunities for communities across Michigan, especially in the Upper Peninsula.

The first-term lawmaker was first elected to the 109th House District in 2024. His district includes the counties of Alger, Baraga, Marquette, and portions of Dickinson including the townships of Breen, Felch, Norway, Waucedah, and West Branch as well as the cities of Ishpeming, Marquette, Munising, Negaunee, and Norway.
