State Rep. Jay DeBoyer today was elected to a leadership role for the Michigan House of Representatives’ upcoming legislative term.
DeBoyer, of Clay Township, was elected by his House Republican colleagues as an Associate Speaker Pro-Tempore for the 2025-26 term when Republicans retake majority. Within the position, DeBoyer will help preside over House proceedings, moderate debate as lawmakers speak on bills or resolutions, make rulings on procedure, and announce the results of votes.
“I want to thank my House colleagues for entrusting me with this duty,” DeBoyer said. “This role will allow our communities in St. Clair and Macomb counties to have an even greater presence at the Capitol, and I look forward to presiding over issues that matter most to people we all represent.”
DeBoyer was first elected to the Michigan House in 2022 to serve the 63rd House District, which encompasses southern St. Clair County and northern Macomb County, and will begin his second term on Jan. 1, 2025. During the current legislative term, he has frequently spoken on the House floor on legislation involving Michigan’s elections process, government transparency, state spending, Second Amendment rights, and more.
DeBoyer also currently serves as a member of the House Elections Committee as well as the Economic Development and Small Business Subcommittee on Housing.
