After Senate Democrats declined to advance legislation to clarify the tax code for Michigan small businesses, House Republican Leader Matt Hall, R-Richland Township, on Thursday criticized Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks for breaking a bipartisan deal and failing to pass legislation to clarify sales and use tax exemptions for industrial processing equipment in the aggregate industry:
“Leader Brinks and Democrats are going back on their word, betraying the people and small businesses of Michigan, and destroying the trust necessary to govern in the middle. I negotiated a bipartisan deal in good faith with Gov. Whitmer and Democrat leaders to protect Michigan small businesses from overzealous state tax bureaucrats. But now that Democrats got the Republican votes they needed, Democrats are infighting and killing good policy that would help local job providers. This shameful, dishonest partisan gamesmanship will prevent any good-faith governance in Lansing.”
“Democrats gave hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to Gotion despite Michiganders’ major concerns about the company’s ties to the Chinese Communist Party and how the plant will interfere with our natural resources,” said House Republican Leader Matt Hall, R-Richland Township.
“Gov. Whitmer’s heavily-skewed, partisan commission is nothing but a Trojan horse for new taxes,” Hall said. “After four years of failure, the governor has no plan to keep young people in Michigan, no excuse for our crumbling roads, and no vision to improve childhood reading levels.”
House Republican Leader Matt Hall, R-Richland Township, on Tuesday issued the following statement after the House Elections Committee passed House Bill 4156, legislation that would join Michigan to the National Popular Vote Compact and undermine the state’s role as a key swing state.
“Michiganders want public safety in our communities, but House Democrats are pushing radical, unprecedented plans to let dangerous criminals roam our neighborhoods,” said Hall, R-Richland Township. “The Democrats’ newest, extreme proposal could release the most brutal murderers and rapists from prison and inject them back into our communities.”
