Wednesday, April 30th, 2025:
I voted YES on HB 4029 (Rep. Slagh) would require that any hunting & trapping orders adopted by the Natural Resources Commission must be adopted by June 1st of that year for them to go into effect that season and provide for notification of the orders in the annual hunting, fishing & trapping guide handbook. EXPLANATION: Hunters, trappers, and fishers have had to juggle impromptu rule changes by the NRC, often while hunting season is in full swing. These practices have caused hunters, trappers, and fishers confusion, which is government interference in their activities. Clarity is long overdue, and it is a solid first step in recognizing the vital role that Michigan sportsmen have in conservation efforts.

I voted YES on HB 4027&28 (Rep. Alexander) would remove provisions from the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act that subject local zoning authority to the MPSC preemption. Would repeal Part 8 of the Clean and Renewable Energy and Energy Waste Reduction Act, which gives the MPSC zoning and permitting approval over large-scale renewable energy projects. EXPLANATION: Zoning laws are largely a function of local governments. Previously, the MPSC was given authority over zoning, bringing disastrous centrally planned Green New Scam policies right to the doorstep of local communities that don’t want them. The bill package strips the bureaucracy of its false authority.

Thursday, May 1st, 2025:
I voted YES on HB 4338&39 (Reps. Cavitt, Pavlov) would create the Local Government Sanctuary Policy Prohibition Act and County Law Enforcement Protection Act, respectively, to prohibit a local or county government from enacting or enforcing any law, ordinance, policy, or rule that limits local or county officials, officers, or employees from communicating or cooperating with appropriate federal immigration officials. EXPLANATION: This is not an issue that can be ignored, and at the state level we must do what we can to aid corrective immigration measures. Illegal immigration is by definition a crime, and this bill package prevents an activist local government from going rogue and imposing support for illegal immigration on their communities. The proposed legislation also allows for citizens to file civil suits against their local governments if those governments chose to ignore the rights and voice of the people.

I voted YES on HB 4342 (Rep. DeSana) would amend the Glenn Steil State Revenue Sharing Act of 1971 to require the state treasurer to withhold statutory revenue sharing payments from local or county governments with sanctuary policies. EXPLANATION: If a local entity of government chooses to illegally violate state law by enacting sanctuary city policies, they should have their taxpayer funds withheld until the issue is resolved. When an institution of government, whether it be a city government or the state, forgets its dedication to the people, the taxpayers should not foot the bill for flagrant offenses that violate their rights.
PASSED: 57-49
I voted YES on HB 4340&41 (Reps. Linting, Thompson) would prohibit illegal immigrants from receiving welfare and housing benefits. EXPLANATION: MDHHS reports that nearly a third of the state’s population is receiving some kind of welfare. With a massive amount of legal residents on state assistance, the state cannot afford to let illegal aliens receive taxpayer handouts.
PASSED: 63-43, PASSED: 63-43
I voted YES on HB 4288 (Rep. Byrnes) would require merit-based hiring practices for at-will employees of a state agency. EXPLANATION: In a free market, people are hired based on their unique merit and ability to produce valuable work. This economic system has generated prosperity for employers and employees alike, and generally speaking, merit-based hiring sets people up for success across the board. State government should be no different, if we are to use taxpayer money to provide compensation for government employees, they should also be hired on account of their merit, not by a DEI standard. State government is bloated, with over fifty thousand employees on record. Fifty thousand salaries and benefits packages cost a lot of taxpayer money.
