My Budget Work Thus Far (Successes)
Earlier this year, I helped pass a series of conservative budget proposals. Here are some of the key victories that I’ve obtained:
- Remove DEI funding from the Education Budget — keeping classrooms focused on academics instead of political agendas, protecting fairness in sports for your daughters, and restoring trust in schools.
- Cut the Higher Education Budget by 2.6% — I led negotiations to save taxpayers over $100 million to stay with you instead of growing bureaucracy.
- Stop Lansing from dictating local school transportation spending — eliminating $125 million in unnecessary subsidies so your local district can decide how to best spend their money.
- Block $33 million in non-essential school health centers — so schools stay focused on education.
- Ban certain state employees from using preferred pronouns in official government communications — with a $100 fine for violations.
- Prohibit government funding of services for illegal immigrants, except for detention purposes.
- Mandate E-Verify for all state contractors and subcontractors to ensure only authorized workers are hired.
- Require public transparency on spending, including detailed cost-per-prisoner tracking and quarterly reports on state-restricted fund balances.
- Publish all state expenditures, vendor payments, and contract allocations online for public access.
- Enact strict limitations on severance pay for high-ranking officials, with a requirement that severance agreements be reported within 14 days.
- Ensure state contracts prioritize Michigan-based businesses when competitively priced.
- Mandate performance-based evaluation metrics for department budgets to promote efficiency.
- Require courts to make spending data and operations fully transparent and accessible online.
My Remaining Budget Work (I’m On It)
Here are some of the items I am fighting to obtain for before passage of the final 2025-2026 fiscal year budget in September:
- End subsidies for electric vehicle initiatives — including charging station installation, state fleet conversions, and costly school bus upgrades.
- Pay down pension debt aggressively to protect future generations from unsustainable pension obligations, as seen in states like Illinois.
- End foolish corporate deals through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation to prop up failing corporate interests at the expense of Michigan residents.
- Remove Medicaid benefits for individuals in the country illegally, ensuring resources are directed to citizens and legal residents.
- Close funding loopholes for Planned Parenthood to prevent taxpayer dollars from supporting abortion-related services.
- Terminate salaries for state employees in charge of Green New Deal implementation.
- Terminate salaries for Attorney General staff involved in partisan legal actions, such as shutting down Line 5 or defending federal grants for Planned Parenthood.
- Close the Worker Transition Office to eliminate redundant programs already funded through Michigan Works.
My Oversight Committee Work
As Majority Vice Chair of the Government Weaponization Committee and a member of the Homeland Security and House Oversight Committees, my goal is to stand up, speak out and act boldly on behalf of Michigan residents impacted by government tyranny.
Oversight initiatives I’ve worked on since the beginning of the year:
- Required Whitmer department heads to testify before the House Oversight Committee. These subpoenas are just one avenue we will use to hold accountable any government officials who are found breaking the law .
- Exposed how Michigan State Police limit cooperation with ICE in aiding deportation of illegal aliens across Michigan.
- Challenged our Attorney General’s misuse of public funds in the Flint water crisis lawsuit.
- Defended free speech for whistleblowers impacted by government weaponization.
- And much more…
My Introductions Thus Far

My Drafts in the Works
- Constitutional Literacy Bill — teaches students how our Founding Fathers intended the government to operate and how to sustain our Great Nation by participating in our Constitutional Republic.

- Safe School Environments — ensures school staff are allowed to be deputized and trained to intervene immediately during a mass casualty event.

- And much more…

- And more…
I Will Not Stop Fighting for You
Every one of these fights comes down to this: are we making your life better? Lower taxes mean more money for your family’s needs. Safer neighborhoods mean your children can walk to school, play outside, and enjoy their community with confidence and peace of mind. Local control means local decisions are made by the local officials you elect rather than unelected department heads in Lansing. My aim is to report everything to you with transparency to help you understand exactly how your hard-earned money is spent.
We’ve made headway — but we still have a lot of work to do. I’ll keep fighting for a Michigan that respects your Constitutional rights to freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of conscience, just as our Founding Fathers intended.
In God We Trust,
Representative Josh Schriver
