District
State Rep. Terence Mekoski was first elected to serve the 36th District in the Michigan House of Representatives in May 2022. The 36th District encompasses Shelby Township, Bruce Township, Washington Township, and the Village of Romeo.
Committees
Rep. Mekoski serves as a member of the Judiciary, Local Government, and Regulatory Reform committees.
Education
Rep. Mekoski received his associates degree from Macomb Community College in 1984 and then attended Northwestern University from 1989-2000. He is currently studying Criminal Justice at Columbia Southern University.
Professional
Before taking office, Rep. Mekoski served 26 years at the Oakland County Sherriff’s Office. He went from Deputy II and retired in 2016 as Deputy Commander of Patrol Services. During his career, Rep. Mekoski served as a sergeant in the Narcotics Enforcement Unit and as Agent in Charge of an FBI Multi-Agency Task Force and a DEA Multi-Jurisdictional Task Force.
After retiring, Rep. Mekoski returned to the DEA as the Senior Financial Investigator for the Opioid Strike Force.
Public Office and Affiliations
He is a part of Knights of Columbus, and the Washington Twp Lions. Rep. Mekoski also chairs for the Light and Dark Ministry in Detroit, as well as volunteering for Vets Returning Home.
Personal
Rep. Mekoski has been married to his wife Anna for 20 years and they live in Shelby Township. They have 4 children and 10 grandchildren. During his free time, he likes to spend time up north with his family and friends.
